Biography

Robert was born about 1770. No birth or baptismal record has been located for him and other records have been inconsistent in terms of his age. He was probably born in Suffolk between 1763 and 1771.

12 Mar 1801 Robert Towler married Susan Pettit in St James, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England.

Robert and Susan had the following children: 1.) Susan 1801-1815 2.) Melinda 1804-1878 m. Charles Frederick Lease and died in Pennsylvania 3.) Hannah 1807-1886 m Abraham Sallis and lived in Ely 4.) Eliza 1813 - 5.) William 1815-1819

Robert married (2) Mary Fuller on 20 Jan 1819 in St James, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. He was listed as a widower.

1841 England Census: Bridewell Lane, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk Robert Towler, gardiner age 70 living with Mary Towler age 55. Ages were usually rounded down to the nearest 5, so Robert could have been born between 1767 and 1771.

1855 - Mary Fuller, Robert Towler's wife was found dead in Bury St Edmunds, drowned in a stream. Newspaper reports that she had injured her head on a gate and had been suffering bouts of dizziness.

19 Apr 1856 - Robert Towler died in Clopton's Hospital on the same day that he admitted to Cloptons. He was listed as a brewer age 93 which would point to a year of birth of around 1763.
