Biography

George was born before 1838 in Wadhurst, Sussex[1][2]. His parents were Frederick TILL and Mary RICHARDSON.

In 1851, George was 12 years old and living in Wadhurst, Sussex with his parents, Frederick (36, Blacksmith) and Mary (36) and siblings: John (14), Frederick (10), Albert (8), Jabez (6), Simeon (4), Thomas (2) and a newborn baby girl[3].

Mary Jane LAMBERT and George TILL were married in 1858 in St. George Southwark, London. [4]

By 1861, George was 22 years old and a blacksmith, living in Greenwich, Kent with his wife Mary (22) and children, Almenia (2) and infant Frederick. [5]

George's wife, Mary Jane passed away in 1866 in Lewisham, Kent.

Mary Lambert HAWKINS and widower, George TILL were married in 1867 in Lewisham, London[6]

1871, George was 32 years old, a Gold Wire Maker, living in Clerkenwell St James, Middlesex with his second wife, Mary L (22), and children, Frederick (10), Mary (2) and George (1)[7]

By 1881, George was 40 years old, a Warehouseman, living in Beckenham, Kent with his wife, Mary (33), and children, Mary (12) and George (10), Florence (8), Sidney (6), Arthur (4), Lilly (2) and infant, Percy[8]

The TILL family set sail from Plymouth, England on 6 Jan 1884 aboard the steamer, Sirsa and arrived in Brisbane, Australia on 14 Mar 1884. The family consisted of: parents, George (aged 40) and Mary (36) and their children: May (15), George (13), Florence (11), Sidney (10), Lilly (9), Arthur (5), Percy (3) and infant, Maud[9][10]

He passed away in 1919[11] and was buried at the Bundaberg General Cemetery[12].

DEATH NOTCE,
TILL.— At the residence of Mr. Thomas Horton, Woongarra-street, on the 3rd August, 1919, George Till, senr. Aged 80 years and 11 months. Deeply regretted.
FUNERAL NOTICE.
THE friends of the late Mr. GEORGE TILL, senr., late of Rockhampton, and family are respectfully invited to attend his funeral, which will move from the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. T. Horton, Woongarra-street, West, THIS DAY, at 3 p.m. for interment in the General Cemetery.
