Biography
John was born in 1852[1] in Beverley, Yorkshire, England, where he lived with his parents on Grovehill in 1861.[2]
By 1871 the family had moved to 76 North Woodside Road in the parish of Glasgow St George, Lanarkshire, Scotland. John's father, Richard, was working as a master blacksmith employing two men and one boy.[3]
