JACOB REED, GENT., Member of the Loudoun County, Virginia, Committee of Correspondence, 1774-1775; Captain on May 13, 1779, when his company of militia was paid for being guard over the Convention Troops and pay roll at Williamsburg; appointed Commissioner of Specifics, Oct. 10, 1780, and - recommended as Major of the Third Battalion Loudoun County Militia, Feb. 12, 1781.

He was born c 1730 and died in Fleming County, Kentucky, before "Monday, October 3, 1803" when his estate was administered. (Will Book A, pages 58, 59, 60, 61, 62 and 75; Order Book B, pages 222 and 295)

Jacob Reed married:

(1) Rebecca Claypoole, born c 1732 in Pennsylvania; died in Loudoun County, Virginia, after May 3, 1785 (Deed Book P, page 355) and before March 12, 1787 (Order Book K, page 31 and Will Book C, page 75)

He married (2) in Virginia, Ann Taylor, widow of Joshua Taylor, of Loudoun County, Virginia. She survived Jacob Reed and is of record in Fleming County, Kentucky. No issue by this alliance.
