Charles was first elected as MP for Eastbourne in 1935. He held the seat until February 1974 when he was deselected in favour of his successor, Ian Gow.
Charles was born in 1910. He was the son of Alfred Taylor and Mary Kirwan. Charles's birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1910 in the Epsom district.[1]
In the 1911 census Charles (age 0) was the son of Alfred George Taylor in Carshalton, Surrey, England.[2]
Charles's marriage to actress Constance Ada Shotter was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1936 in the London City district. She had previously been married to Walter Gibbons and had a son.[3] They had three sons and a daughter of their own.
Charles fought in the Second World War in the Royal Artillery and became a Temporary Major in 1941. He was awarded the Territorial Decoration. He was managing director of Cow and Gate and later Unigate. In 1946 he became President of Grosvenor House (Park Lane) Ltd, Residential Hotels Association. He became Deputy Lieutenant of Sussex in 1948 and was knighted in 1954.
Charles's death was registered in 1989 in London, England.[4] He was buried in Sutton, London Borough of Sutton, Greater London, England.
