I have got back as far as the 18th century. It is part of family folklore that my mothers side of the family Cumming was in the distant past spelt Comyn of which there seem to be two sects Red and Black Comyn. One of them is descended from Robert The Bruce. Getting back that far is difficult due to the naming conventions e.g petersdaughter, I have ancestors from Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Shetland, USA. Poland, Netherlands and possibly Canada. Ihave connections in England but to date have not discovered any Welsh connections.

Biography

2nd son of Bill Sutherland and Jay Cumming, born 1957. Christened 16 June 1957 at St Bernard's Davidson Church, Henderson Row , Edinburgh . Now a sheltered housing scheme. Attended Flora Stevenson Primary School 1962 - 1968. Then attended Bellevue Secondary School(now Drummond Community School) 1969-73. Took up post of Photographic Sales Assistant, Hamilton Tait Corstorphine, later transferring to their Bruntsfield branch, left 1978. Became manager of Photographic Retailer J B Watson, 1978. Left on closure of business due to owners retirement 1980. Ran a small guest house for 10 years. Achieved NVQ 3 in business studies and IT. Sole trader of a grocery business . Scottish Government Officer 1999 -2017.Retired aged 60. Have travelled extensively across Europe from Spain(Barcelona, Lloret De Mar, Blanes, Calella and Gerona) through to Greece(Mykonos), Scandanavia and Estonia in The Balkans. A two day stop in St Petersburg, Russia. Romania (Constanta and Bucharest). Ukraine(Odessa). Asia :Turkey(Dalaman, Istanbul) Singapore, Malaysia(Kuala Lumpur), The Philippines, India: Delhi/New Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Ranthambore National Park, Amritsar, and Wagah (Indian /Pakistan border).Also a brief stop in Hong Kong. Africa: Kenya(Nairobi, Mombasa and a Masai Mara safari and Egypt(Nile River Cruise - Luxor, Edfu, Com Ombo, Aswan, Karnak Temple and Valley of The Kings (incl: Abu Simbel nr Sudan border)

Hi Adrian,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
