Isobel Sutherland was also known as Elizabeth in records. Isobel Sutherland was also known as Isabella in records. Her name "Isabell" is usually latinised "Isabella," as it is in the Papal Dispensation for her marriage, and in the inquest which records her death as " Isabella, relict of the late Sir Alexander Dunbar, of Westfield, Knight." But occasionally it is latinised "Elizabeth," as in the Latin Charter of her son, Bishop Gavin. She was born say 1434 in Duffus, Moray, Scotland. She was the daughter of Alexander Sutherland 3rd baron Duffus and Morella Chisholm.
Isobel Sutherland married Sir Alexander Dunbar, son of James Dunbar 4th Earl of Moray and Isabel Innes (Dunbar), on 6 August 1451 in the house of St Anthony's, Leith, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. His wife's seal on 12 June 1502 showed, on a shield two cushions, with a star in base. Her marriage settlement brought to Sir Alexander the lands at Clunnie and Clava.
A contract for the marriage of Isobel Sutherland and Sir Alexander Dunbar was signed on 3 January 1451/52. Papal dispensation was granted 6 August.
On 31 Jan 1498/9 an action by Elizabeth Sutherland, widow of Alexander Dunbar of Westfield, Kt. & James Dunbar of Cumnock, executor to the said Alexander, against Alexander Lord Gordon, for with holding corn etc.
Isobel died on 11 November 1505 in Scotland. 4 July 1586: Action at the instance of William Sutherland of Duffus son & heir of the deceased Alexander Sutherland of Duffus against John Dunbar apparent of Mochrum "oy" and heir to the deceased Alexander Dunbar of Conzie, and John Kennedy of Blairquhan, William Conynghame of Capringtoun his curators, George Dunbar of Auchsleisk, Alexander Dunbar his son and apparent heir, Patrick Dunbar of Blare, John Ros of Ballevat and David Dunbar of Kinstarie, for postponing and deferring to resign and renounce all and sundry the towns and lands of Brichmonie and Kinstarie lying in the barony of Duffus and Sheriffdom of Elgin and Forres; which lands had been lawfully redeemed by the said pursuer on 6th June 1584. The Lords of Council find the said lands to have been lawfully redeemed and therefore decern and ordain the said defenders to resign the same.
