Mary was born on the 26 April 1860 at 2.20 pm in the Hamlet of Lochty, directly north of the Village of Carnbee, in the Parish of Carnbee, Fife, Scotland. In the Birth Record, her surname is spelt as "Simmers"[1]. She was the daughter of James Summers and Janet Robertson.

We find Mary in the Census Record of 1861 living with her parents James (Summers) and Janet (Robertson), along with siblings Elizabeth, James, David, Euphemia and Catherine (Summers). They reside in the Hamlet of Lochty, directly north of the Village of Carnbee, in the Parish of Carnbee, Fife, Scotland. Their surname is spelt incorrectly as "Somers"[3]. However, the Census of 1871 has them back in the Parish of Crail, in Fife. They live with their children Euphemia, Catherine, Mary and Margaret "Maggie" Robertson (Summers) at a Cottar House in the Hamlet of Airdrie, west of the Town of Crail, District of Crail, in Fife, Scotland[4].
By 1881, James and Jane; children James, Mary and Margaret "Maggie" Robertson (Summers); granddaughter, Georgina (Watson) and Farm Servants, James (Kidd) and John (Scott) are living at a Cottar, in the Hamlet of Bonnyton, north of the Village of Kirkton of Largo, District of Largo, in Fife, Scotland[5]. George (Lumsden) has married Mary (Summers) by the Census Record of 1891. They live with their children William, Jessie Robertson and Catherine "Katie" Ireland (Lumsden) at the House Farm, in the Hamlet of Muircambus, north west of the Village of Kilconquhar, in the Parish of Elie, in Fife, Scotland[6].
The family have moved to a Cothouse, in the Hamlet of Inch, south of the Village of Carnbee, in the Parish of Carnbee, in Fife, Scotland by the Census Record of 1901. George and Mary live there with children Jessie Robertson, Catherine "Katie" Ireland and James Summers (Lumsden)[7]. They are still there with the Census of 1911, but only their daughters Catherine "Katie" Ireland and Mary Summers (Lumsden) remain with them[8]. In the Spring of 1920, they are still at the Cottar House in the Hamlet of Inch, but now it is in the District of Pittenweem, in Fife, Scotland[9].
Mary (Summers) passes away on the 5 February 1942 at 12.05 am at 12 Henderson Park, in the Village of Windygates, west of the Town of Leven, District of Windygates, in Fife, Scotland. She was 81 years old at the time and dies from Carcinoma of the Bowel. Her son William (Lumsden) is present at the death and informant[10].
