Research Notes

  • There is evidence of a second son named William M. Stone who was born on 14 Jul 1850 in Surry County, North Carolina. He married Luzetta Boyles and died on 18 Mar 1918 in Revolution, Gilmer Township, Guilford County, North Carolina. It is clearly stated on his death record that his parents were Enoch and Elizabeth (Gordon) Stone.[6] It is very odd that this couple would have had two sons named William. -- Fiscus-32 14:27, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
    • There is a clue in the 1860 census ... there is another Enoch Stone, b. ca. 1823 with a wife named Elizabeth who had a son named William. There appears to have either been some conflation, or both Enoch Stones married different Elizabeth Gordons. God help us.
