Biography

WHO ARE THE PARENTS OF THESE FIVE SIBLINGS?

PLEASE DO NOT add Joseph Stewart (1770-1876) (Family Search # GMVM-9PZ) as the Father. He is propagated all over the internet, but no one has been able to provide any "Record Proof" or reasonable source to connect him to these children.

The Father (and probably both parents) of these children most likely died before 1827 when Lucinda was declared an "Orphan" and Bonded out to John List, Jr.

  • Ephraim was born in May 1818 in Wheeling, Ohio County, Virginia. It became West Virginia in 1863. Family Bible records show siblings as follows:
  • Susan Stewart b. 1809, Wheeling Virginia; married Rev. Thomas Potter Shumard and had 14 children. Susan and Thomas and some of the children moved to Harrison County Missouri in 1856.
  • Stephen Stewart an M E Preacher - no other info
  • Lucinda Stewart b. 1816 Wheeling, Virginia, she was classified as an "Orphan" in court records and bonded out to John List, Jr in 1827 until age of 18 which would be 1834. She moved with Susan and Thomas to Harrison County, Missouri in 1856 and in 1859 married a widower, Stephen Bryant. She had no children of her own.
  • Ephraim Stewart b. 1818 Wheeling, Virginia- He and Henry moved with family or neighbor to Illinois in 1833. He Married Leah Grove in Dec 1839 in Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois, They had seven children. The oldest was born in Illinois, the others in Missouri. In 1841, they moved with a group of people to Bethany, Harrison County, Missouri where he was instrumental in helping to establish the Christian Church, along with John Allen. He passed away in 1907 in Wayne County, Iowa.
  • Henry Stewart b. 1820 Wheeling, Virginia, he with his brother Ephraim moved to Illinois in 1833. Henry married Lucinda Swarens in December 1839 in Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois and they had nine children.
