Biography

John James Stewart was born on 28 July 1880 in Kinkull, Limavady, Drumachose, County Londonderry, Ireland. He was the son of John Stewart, farmer, and Mary Charlotte Brown. ^[1]

His father passed away and his mother remarried in 1899. During the 1901 census he was living with his stepfather, mother and two sisters (Isabella and Matilda) on Kennedy Street in Londonderry, Ireland. He was 20 years old, single and working as a Ladies Tailor. ^[2]

He immigrated to Canada and in 1916 he was living in Lisgar, Manitoba, Canada. ^[3]

John James Stewart married Jean HendersonJane Henderson on 12 Jan 1921 in Morton, Manitoba, Canada when he was 40 years old. ^[4]

In 1926 he was living with his wife and two children in Winnipeg, Manitoba. ^[5]

A few years later their family moved to British Columbia where he worked for the Armed Forces for the federal government until 1946. ^[6] Sadly, their son James Gordon Stewart passed away at 19 years of age in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada in 1943. ^[7]

John James Stewart died from bronchopneumonia on 26 May 1967 at Shaunessy Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the age of 86 years. His wife was the informant. He was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby on 30 May 1967. ^[6]
