Biography

Ellen was born in 1859 and baptised on March 13 1859 at St Peter & St Paul, Godalming. She is the daughter of Jacob Stent and Eliza Tucker. ^[1][2]

In 1871 Ellen was living in Crownpik, Godalming with

Ellen was 16 years old when she arrived in New Zealand in 1875 with her family on the ship Michael Angelo. ^[4]

Ellen and her family settled in Takaka.

Two months after her arrival in New Zealand, Ellen married George Galey, a Sailmaker, of Norfolk. It's likely George was a member of the crew and how he came to meet Ellen and build a relationship before their arrival in Nelson.

Ellen and George raised 11 children in their marriage and settled in West Takaka where they ran a farm.

Ellen Galey passed away in 1921 and is buried at Rototai Cemetery, Takaka. BLK B ROW III PLOT 73.^[5]
