Biography

Alexander STEENSON was born in 1912 in Belfast, Ireland. He was the son of William STEENSON , a van man (carter), and Isabella CHRISTIE. ^{[1] [2]}

From his birth to 1915, Alexander's family lived at 33 Hartley Street in Belfast. Alexander's father was working as a van man.

Alexander's father enlisted in the British Army for service in World War One on the 19th of November 1915. He served as a driver with the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC). Records show that he served in Salonika (Macedonian front) as of 21 August 1918. He served until the end of the war and was demobilized and discharged on 28 February 1919.

Sadly Alexander's mother died in July 1918 from chronic pulmonary tuberculosis and intestinal enteritis. Alexander was only six years old.

In 1919, Alexander's father, a 39-year-old carter from Belfast and a widower with three children married Margaret (Dunn) Hewitt, a 34-year-old widow, with four young children. They were married in the People's Hall Methodist Church in Belfast. Afterwards, Alexander's father worked as a grocer on Main Street in the Town of Saintfield in the business begun by Margaret's late husband. The Steenson family lived there until at least 1924. ^[3]
