Biography

Samantha was born in 1871, the daughter of William Starnes and Elizabeth Rucker.^[1] She married George Culwell. She passed away in 1934.

Notes

1. Her marriage to George Washington Culwell is supported by their daughter Maude's birth and death certificates as well as her obituary.
2. She probably passed away in 1934. The Arkansas death certificate has a large white X through it but you can see the maiden name of her mother and the initials of her father which match Samantha.^[2] (Image can not be viewed on Family Search.) However the newspaper articles of the death only refer to her as the wife of "Mant" Culwell not George. Could this have been a nickname? Relatives in the obituary match up. In fact George's death certificate shows signature of Mrs Monte Culwell.
   
3. The 1920 census lists a daughter Maude.^[3] The 1930 census for Maude has her living with Mrs George Culwell listed as a widow indicating George passed before 1930.^[4]
