Elizabeth Gertrude Spratt was born at sea, on board the barque Surge in late 1855. She was the youngest daughter of Dr Henry Spratt and his first wife Elizabeth Sayer Howell.
Her parents and older siblings emigrated from London to New Zealand in 1855, arriving in Wellington in January 1856. After a year in Wanganui, the family settled in Greytown.
Her mother died in 1875.
In 1876, she married George Lister-Kaye.
They had one child, Alan, born in 1876.
She was widowed in sad and strange circumstances in 1883, after which she moved to London where she passed away in 1923, aged 65. [2]
