Biography

This profile is part of the Watten, Caithness One Place Study.

In 1851 James was living in Watten with his father and siblings on the family's 45 acre farm. James's occupation was given as "farmer's son, shepherd".[1]

He immigrated to New Zealand with his father and siblings in 1852 aboard the Royal Albert.

At the time his father wrote his will in 1867 he was confined to the lunatic asylum in Dunedin (probably Seacliff).
