He married, firstly, Janet Stewart, daughter of Sir Alexander Stewart of Darnley.
He lived at Linton, Roxburghshire, Scotland and at Carnwarth, Lanarkshire, Scotland. In 1423 he was an ambassador to London to treat for the ransom of James I, King of Scotland.
"It is true, this John Barrone of Carnwarth took not title of a Lord upon him, but his sone Thomas, thairfore wee reckone him the first Lord Somervill." [2]
"Sir Alexander Stewart, 1n 1390, bestowed the lands of Cambusnethan on Janet, his daughter and her husband Sir Thomas Somerville of Carnwath, created in 1427, Lord Somerville."[3]
He had many children of whom at least six survived infancy, including:[4]
William, 1st Lord Somerville b. b 1400, d. 20 Aug 1456[5]
Margaret, youngest daughter, m. Kirkpatrick, Laird of Closeburn in Nithsdale[4][5]
Research notes
Scots Peerage provides that he had a wife Mary/Marie, daughter of Henry Sinclair, 1st Earl of Orkney, and makes no mention of Elizabeth Keith:
"1407, Lord Thomas married Lady Marie Sinclair, daughter of Henry Earl of Orkney and of Roslyn Castle, with whom he lived happily for twenty-seven years. Afther his marriage he retired from Court for a time.
"Lady 'Marie Sinclair' was the second wife of Thomas, 1st Lord Somerville, to whom he was married in 1407. We find he was previously married in 1392 to Janet, a daughter and co-heiress of Sir Alexander Stewart, Lor Darnley, who brought with her, as dowry, a large portion of lands in the barony of Cambusnethan, which, when added to those already in the possession of the Somerville family in Cambusnethan, made a very large and rich inheritance.
"On the occasion of this marriage, King Robert III granted a charter of Confirmation in these lands in favour of 'Thomas Somerville and Janet Stewart, his spouse, and the longest liver of them.' This charter is dated July 1392.
"The Author of 'The Memorie' makes no reference to this marriage whatever. Perhaps this lady died without issue, a circumstance which often induced genealogists to pass unnoticed an unfruitful union, as unworthy of a place in the pedigrees they compiled."[8]

Scots Peerage (SP) was mentioned in Research Notes but not attached. I have added a couple of reference for SP and noticed there were quite a few differences in a number of vitals including wives, date of death, etc. It seems that some careful analysis is warranted. Just a thought.
