Migrated from Somerset to Wellington, New Zealand

Anne Crespin emigrated to Wellington, New Zealand in 1884, [3] and kept a boarding house in Port Street, Wellington [1]

The failure of her husband Gedoin to support her and his disappearance together with the early death of her son Frederick left Ann in difficult circumstances. Her son Frederick's military service files held at National Archives N.Z. hold a number of letters relating to Ann's need for financial assistance.

Dear Cousin Roberta
I am exceedingly sorry to say that I cannot be of any use in the matter mentioned in your letter. I certainly remember going to a lodging house about 20 years ago, and being informed that Gidwin Crespin had died there, but I have not the least recollection in what part of London it was or of seeing the body and if I had seen the body, I could not have identified it as I never saw Godwin during his life. Under these circumstances, a certificate from me would I fear be of no legal value. I am sorry to hear of Mrs. Crespins difficulty and hope it may be soon got over but until we can find out the address at which her husband died, I am afraid it would be no use communicating with the Registrar. Many thanks for your kind enquiry after my wife and children, I am glad to say they are all quite well. I hope you and Mrs. Baldwin are in good health also, and with very kind regards, I remain your appreciative cousin, Henry Gervis.
