Biography

Mary Edrie Smith was born on 3 Dec. 1947 at Riverside, Riverside Co., California, USA^[1]. She was named for her grandmothers, Mary and Edrie Ivy (Taylor) Roach. Her mother did not know until much later that grandmother Marie "Mary" (Husser) Smith was actually named Marie. She appeared on the census of 17 May 1950 in the home of her parents at 839 N. Main St., Riverside, Riverside County, California. Her grandmother was living with them and her paternal grandparents were listed next to them.^[2] She lived with her parents, Philip Gordon Smith and Myrtle Edrie (Roach) Smith, in 1951 at 839 N. Main St., Riverside, Riverside Co., California. She attended Fremont Elementary School in Riverside. She and her brother walked about a mile to the school. About 1963 she made a lace border for a table cloth. The table cloth was started by her grandmother Edrie and completed by her brother Philip. In 2021 the table cloth was given to her niece Jennifer (Smith) Avedissian by Philip.^[3] She attended Riverside Polytechnic High School. She was a bridesmaid at the marriage of her brother, Philip Wayne Smith, and Margaret Dena McBride on 3 Aug. 1968 at Baptist Church, Benton Ave., Santa Clara, Santa Clara Co., California.^[3]

She married Albert Keith Lake, son of Albert Charles Lake and Dorothea Olive (MacKintosh) Lake, on 4 Jan. 1969 at San Bernardino Co., California.^[1][4][5] She and Albert lived in 1988 at 11967 Knoefler Dr., Riverside, Riverside Co., California.^[3]

Mary died on 29 Jan. 1996 at Riverside, Riverside Co., California,^[6] at age 48. She was buried on 2 Feb. 1996 at Olivewood Cemetery, 3300 Central Ave., Riverside, Riverside Co., California.^[3][7]

Memorial services for Mary Edrie Lake, 48, will be held at 4 p.m. today at Magnolia Baptist Church in Riverside. She died Monday of cancer at her home in Riverside.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Olivewood Cemetery in Riverside.

Aaron Cremation and Burial Services in Highland is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Lake was a native and livelong resident of Riverside. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lake is survived by her husband, Albert; two sons, Michael and Alan, both of Riverside; three brothers, Doug Smith of Stockton, Philip Smith of San Jose, and Bruce Smith of Rancho Cucamonga; a sister, Elaine Smith of Loma Linda; and her parents, Myrtle Edrie of Tewnty-Nine Palms and Philip Smith of Colton.^[8]
