Biography

John Hellyer was born in 1906. He was the son of James Sinton and Louisa Matilda Hellyer. ^[1], He married Hughina Violet Kane in 1931 ^[2] He passed away in 1942 age 36 ^[3]

BUTCHER FOUND DEAD Mr John Hellyer Sinton, who was 36 years of age, and was a butcher by trade, was found dead in the kitchen of his home at 147 Dundas street at 3.30 p.m. yesterday, apparently from the effects of gas poisoning. The deceased, who leaves a wife and family, had been missing for some time, having been last heard of in Timaru on October 30. An inquest will be held at the house this morning-by Mr H. W. Bundle, ^[4]

FOUND DEAD. Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.. acting as coroner, opened an inquest this morning concerning the death of John Hollyer Sinton, 30 years of age, who was found dead at his home at 147 Du tides street, yesterday afternoon. Evidence was given by John Sinton, butcher, who said that his son, who was employed by him, was of a highlystrung, nervous disposition. Deceased had been missing from his home since October 30, but yesterday witness had found him there dead in a chair. A letter had been left by deceased in which he stated that he was ill and weary and could go on no longer. The inquest was adjourned sine die, ^[5]

His death was ruled a suicide
