1/ John is a contemporary of John Sinton (1700-aft.1744) who lived at Outer Huntly farm nearby Ashkirk.
2/ John and Margaret’s son Alexander's baptism in 1737 shows John as servant to the Laird of Sinton[4]
3/ (The Laird of Synton) Alexander Scott of Synton (1690–1764), son of John, succeeded when still a minor. John Sinton, together with Alexander Scott of Synton, witnessed the 1744 baptism at Ashkirk of Charles Scott (son of William Scott of Woll). William was trained as an advocate and served as Sheriff of Selkirkshire. His five daughters were all six feet high.
