Thomas was born about 1740, this being estimated from both the ages of his children and that he was described as tenant of Sunhope (a 900 acre farm) from at least 1772. Sunhope being listed as for let in 1801 ^[1]

Disambiguation

This Thomas has sometimes been identified as the Thomas b. 1755 to James and Margaret Sinton in Southdean.

It seems an unlikely ID on a couple of counts.

Would an 18 yr old be the tenant of a 900 acre farm?

If his father was a James I would expect a son named James and neither of the known sons, nor the suspected one are so-called.

And throw in the Lauder, Berwickshire vs Southdean, Roxburghshire base for a bit more, admittedly weaker, circumstantial evidence Henderson-2297 04:33, 30 March 2019 (UTC)
