Biography

William came over to work in the fur trade industry from the Orkney Islands off Northern Scotland. William was an HBC employee and one who traded with Natives and Métis for furs they brought - he married a Native woman died 7/16 1870 RRS


1827 Census listing 93. Lot 162, William Sinclair (a), age 41, Protestant, Orkney, 1 married man, 1 woman, 1 house, 1 stable, 1 horse, 1 cow, 1 ox, 2 calves, 2 swine, 1 cart, 1 plough, 1 harrow, 2 canoes, 4 acres[1]

He may have been the son of Hugh Sinclair and Barbara Knarston.[2] OR C: 20 Dec 1788 Father: Gilbert SINCLAIR Holm And Paplay, Orkney, Scotland Mother: Isabel GARRIOCH is another parental possibility


Please take care that he not to be confused with the other William Sinclair (Sinclair-322) who lived in the same area and time period, who was born in 1794, married Mary Wadin McKay and became the chief factor at HBC


tentative Will: 9 Mar, 1870 William signed his will leaving his lot - 14 to his son Peter. He died 16 July 1870[3]

OR Burried Jan 4, 1862 age 76 at St Andrews

After some time away WikiTree returning to find some information I am not sure is for THIS William - either the burial or thee will is wrong as he only died once.

If he was 41 in 1827 he was born in 1786 or 1787 - so if he died in 1870 he would have been 84 If he died in 1862 he would have been 76 - The burial states 76, so the will is possibly one that belongs to one of the other William Sinclairs Still not convinced about parents - two strong possibilities.

Sinclair-334 and Sinclair-4420 do not represent the same person because: These are not the same man. Documentation on the profiles point out the differences as does a discussion in G2G
