Margaret Sinclair was born 1783 in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland.[1]
Marriage
Margaret Sinclair, aged 21, married Alexander Stewart, aged 25, on 2 Feb 1804 at the Presbyterian Church of Johnstown, Montgomery County, New York.[2]
Alexander Stewart was born on 1 Jan 1779 in Foss, Parish of Dull, Perthshire, Scotland,[3] a few miles from Aberfeldy, where Margaret was born. He was the son of Robert Stewart and Jane Wilson, [4] who immigrated in 1886[5] to Johnstown when Alexander was 7 years old. [6]
Children
Margaret Sinclair and her husband Alexander Stewart had the following 11 children:[7]
Jane Stewart (1816-1889), married George Stewart[8]
Margaret Stewart (1806-aft. 1870), married Henry Gilbert[7]
Robert A. Stewart (1808-1881), married Ann Janet Hibbard[9]
John Stewart (1810-1890), married Julia A. Stanton, Electa Maria Bronson Sheldon[10]
William D. Stewart (1813-1886), married Charlotte Sprague[11]
Catherine Stewart (1817-1905), married Alvin Parsons[12]
It is a mystery what happened to the youngest son, James, but records show he did exist. A 1910 biography of their son, Charles Nelson Stewart, named an 11th son as "James T. of Waukesha, Wis."[7] A youngest son James also fits the spot of an additional son aged under 5 on the 1830 census (Smithfield, Madison County, NY)[16] and aged 10-14 on the 1840 census (Manlius, Onondaga, NY).[17]
At first, the family of Alexander and Margaret lived in Johnstown, New York, where there are baptism records of most of their children in the Presbyterian Church of Johnstown.[2] By 1830, they were living 90 miles west in Smithfield (part of which became Fenner), Madison County, the same village where Alexander's sister Catherine lived.[3]
By 1837, the family was living in Manlius Four Corners (now Fayetteville), Onondago County, New York,Stewart, Bruce. Fulton County NY GenWeb. Robert Stewart Probate Transcription of the 1837 probate records of Robert Stewart of Johnstown, New York. Surrogate Court, Montgomery County, Fonda, New York. Book #6, Pages 135-6. October 30, 1837. Includes petition by probate lawyer, John Hillebrant, from File #4, to the will of Robert Stewart, Surrogate Court Records, Montgomery County, stating his children included "Alexander Stewart residing in Manlius, Onondaga Co., N.Y." where Alexander's brother James lived. They became members of the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church in April 1836 and left the church September 1840,[18] about the time they traveled 800 miles west to settle in Pewaukee, Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Death
Margaret (Sinclair) Stewart, aged 68, died in 1851 in Pewaukee, Waukesha County, Wisconsin and was buried there in Prairie Home Cemetery.[1] At her side was buried her husband Alexander, who died 14 years later on 31 Dec 1865, aged 86, also in Wisconsin.[19]

Research Notes
Some sources, inluding their findagrave memorials, record Alexander and his wife Margaret as having the same birthday, Jan 1, and the same death day, Dec 31, with different years. Although it's possible they did, we may want to write those dates in pencil.
