Obituary

"LITTLE BABY IS DROWNED IN TUB Eleven Months Old Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Silver Fell Into Tub of Water While Mother Was Washing Eleven Months Old Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Silver, was accidently drowned in a tub of water at the home of her parents, 301 Third Street, N.W., last evening. The funeral services will be held at 4 o’clock this evening from the chapel of the Wehnrebe undertaking parlors. Rev. Phillip Mercer, of the Congregationalist church officiating, The interment will be made in Rosehill Cemetery. Mrs. Silver was washing and had a candy bucket partly filled with water setting on the kitchen floor. The baby was playing about the room. Mrs. Silver went out into the yard to hang up some clothes and was gone but a few minutes, not more than three or four, she thinks. When she returned, the baby had fallen head foremost into the pail of water and was lifeless. It was rushed to the hospital where physicians worked in an effort to resuscitate the body, but could not. There was no water in the lungs, which indicates that the baby fell with its mouth on the bottom of the tub and smothered to death before the lungs could draw in sufficient water to produce death in that way. The baby was a bright and winsome little girl just reaching that age where her toddling feet and lisping words were a delight to her parents. The sad ending of the baby life has cast a gloom over the hearts of the bereaved parents. The whisper of angels in the ethereal blue of heaven has called the little spirit from the embrace of mother arms to the realization of the life that is typified in the purity of the life which came like the breath of heaven in its sweetness and passed from earth to eternity like the zepher of eventide ladened with the delicate perfume of flowers."[1]
