Charles was born on 11 September 1859 [1] in the Wolverhampton district.[2] He was a son of Edward Dethick Shaw of Oaklands, Wolverhampton and Millicent Augusta Gough. He was educated at Tettenhall College, Wolverhampton and at Balliol College, Oxford. [3]
He was a Managing Director and Chairman of John Shaw and Sons (Ltd) of Wolverhampton. [3] He was also a member of Wolverhampton Town Council and the National Liberal Club. [4] He was mentioned as having travelled in India and Burma. [5]
In 1892, following the death of the previous candidate[6], Charles accepted the Liberal candidacy for Stafford [7], where he was subsequently elected as M.P. in the 1892 General Election. [8] He would retain this seat in the following 1895[9], 1900[10], 1906 [11] and January 1910 [12] Elections.
Charles married Emily White Bursill on 17 January 1900 in St James, Piccadilly, Middlesex, England.[13][14]
Following the passing of the Education act of 1902, he was among the Passive Resisters in Wolverhampton that were summoned regularly for non-payment of what they regarded as the sectarian portion of of the poor rate (as they were paying for Anglican schools). [4]
In 1905, he was fined £5 for "driving a motor car at a speed dangerous to the public" near Oswestry in Shropshire. [15]
He was made Baronet Shaw of Wolverhampton on 30 November 1908. [16][17]
He announced he would not stand in the December 1910 election "Owing to the exigencies of business compelling him to retire from Parliamentary life" and so subsequently left Parliament after that election.[18]
Theodore died on 17 April 1942 in Sunninghill, Berkshire, England and his estate passed probate on 15 July 1942.[19][20] As he had no sons, his Baronetcy became extinct. [4]
