Biography
John Sewell was born about 1525, based on an estimated 1550 marriage year, in Halstead, Essex, England. He was possibly the son of William and Jane (Swallow) Sewell.[1]
John held estates in Halstead. He transferred the White Hart Inn to his son William in 1577, bought a farm called Partriches from Nicholas Starlinge in 1585, and conveyed a tenement to Simon Harvie in 1588. While no death record has been found, John probably died about 1589 based on his son George becoming the owner of Partriches that year.[1]
John had three known sons; the name of his wife is not known:[1]
- William (ca 1550-1609), married Jane Boyce, had children
- George (ca 1555-1627), married Katherine (Unknown), died without heirs
- Thomas (ca 1560), married unknown wife, had known children
