Biography

Charles was born in 1810 in Dunkeld, Perthshire. He was baptised on 29 Apr 1810 in Dunkeld, His parents were David Scott and Jean ( Jane) Young. His older siblings were Hannah, Catherine and May and the younger John and Jean. He emigrated to Australia before 1836. Charles married Eliza Lovecraft in 1836 in Sydney. They had a large family, Elizabeth Jane 1838-1910 , Mary Jane 1840-1886, Charles William Lovecraft 1842-1920, Julie Ann 1843 -1891, Sarah Suzanne 1845-1877, Joshua Edward Lovecraft 1846-1847, Ellen 1848-1854, and Jessie Young 1851-1887, He owned a string of Iron Monger ,saddlery and farm supply shops throughout country NSW and a wholesale distributary .business The company was called 'Scott Williams and co. In later years, after his brother John's disastrous expedition to the Californian gold rush in 1849, John worked for Charles in this business. Charles remarried after the death of Eliza in about 1852.A photo of his second wife exists. Charles died suddenly on 25 Jul 1864 in his mansion, Goderic Lodge, Upper William St ,Sydney, NSW apparently of a heart attack or stroke.
