Civil War Union Army Officer. An 1833 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, his career was closely linked to his father-in-law, the famed General Winfield Scott. During the Mexican War he served as an Aide-de-Camp to General Scott, a role he played right up to the Civil War. When General Scott was retired in November 1861, Henry Lee Scott was promoted to Colonel and Inspector General of the United States Regular Army. He served in this office for less than a year, resigning in 1862 and retiring from the Army after 29 years of service. On March 13, 1865 he was brevetted Brigadier General, US Regular Army for "long and faithful services in the army", but he declined the honor. He passed away in New York City in 1886.
