Alexander Mowat, son of Alexander Mowat and Katharine Sandison, was born about 1800 and baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 12 August 1800. The parish register entry recorded that Alexander Mowat Senior was a soldier.[1]
Elizabeth Mowat, daughter of Alexander Mowat and Katharin Sandison, was born about 1807 and baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 23 April 1807.[2] Place of residence at the time of baptism was Lynegar, Watten, Caithness.[3]
In 1841 Katherine (or Catherine) was living in Lynegar, Watten, with her daughter Betty and a John McKay (Mackay), an agricultural labourer. It is not known Katherine's connection to John; he may have been a lodger as he gave his place of birth as Scotland (not Caithness). Katharine had no trade.[4]
