Biography

Catherina Barbara was 69 years, 8 months old when she died on February 1, 1786[1], leading to an estimated birth in 1716.

Her last name at birth is not noted in the Nova Scotia sources, however she was the widow of Urbanus Binter when she married Baptiste Bachman and emigrated to Nova Scotia in the Gale in 1752[2] , and her children Urbanus Binter and Sybilla Binter Christopher Young, which states BACHMAN ( BACHMAN ) Baptiste ; Catherine Barbara ; Maria Eva ; Sibilla ; Urban Binter ; Johannes L'burg Gale 1752' Some secondary sources indicate she was the widow of her son, Ann Barbara (Schmeltzer) Binter, but the two women were a generation apart.

The children of Baptiste and Catherine Barbara Bachman included[1]

  1. Possibly Mary Eva[2], who appears on the 1753 victualling list, but may have been a Binter. She likely died young
  2. John, born before the 1753 victualling list was recorded, who married Maria Eva Herman in 1774[1] [2]
  3. Elizabeth baptized July 12, 1754[1] [2]
  4. Matthew, baptized August 25, 1757[1] [2]
  5. Philippina, baptized February 16, 1759[1] [2]

Catherine Barbara died February 1, 1785, at age 69 years, 8 months[1]

Baptiste Bachman died February 23, 1794, at age 73 years[1]
