He was the son of Henry Ryder, 4th Earl of Harrowby and Susan Juliana Maria Hamilton Dent.^[1]He was born on the 22nd of August 1864.^[1]He married the Hon. Mabel Danvers Smith, daughter of the Rt. Hon. William Henry Smith and Emily Danvers, the Viscountess of Hambleden, on the 16th of November 1887^[1]at Henley, Oxfordshire, England.^[2]He was a partner of Coutts & Company.^[1]He died on the 30th of March 1956 at the age of 91,^[1]citing Death, Stafford, Staffordshire, England.^[3]
