Note: In 1901 Alexander and his brother Charles boarded with Jeanie Johnston, a 66-year old widow, her 2 adult sons and an adult daughter. One of her sons (John) was also a telephone inspector. His death registration is attended to by A R Johnston (noted as a cousin). This can assumed to be Alexander Runciman Johnston whose mother was Jane Barrie Runciman, a sister of Alexander's father Charles. This brings us nicely round in a loop: the Jeanie Johnston he boarded with in 1901 will be his aunt, Jane Barrie Runciman.

Alexander died in 18 Percy St, Govan, his aunts house (she pre-deceased him) and was recorded as single. (Presumably no issue.)
