Biography

Thomas was born in about 1876 in Westruther, Berwickshire. He was the son of John Runciman and Janet (Davidson) Runciman. It should be noted there is a birth in Westruther for a Thomas Runciman in both 1875 and 1876 therefore both records would need to be checked to ascertain the correct birth^[1].

Thomas died at the age of about 25 after 1901 in ?Edinburgh Newington, Dist of St Giles, MLN, SCT.^[2]

Research Notes

When searching on ScotlandsPeople there are no deaths of a Thomas Runciman anywhere in Scotland around the age of 25 years in any year. Wild card was used on the surname to pick up variant spellings. Using a Birth year of 1875 +/- 5 years there are only 8 Thomas Runciman's who died in Scotland^[3]. The information for each record would need to be viewed to ascertain the correct one. The source information given for the death on the profile does not add up - the source is for a census record but does ot have a link for it the census will not give an actual death place or year also the census detailed in the source also the information given states this is for an 1881 census so where does after 1901 come from? The death location was changed to read Edinburgh, Midlothian to remove the Suggestion Errors of separators in Death Location.
