Biography
Agnes Runciman was born about 1790 in Scotland.
Agnes married George Fortune (born in North Berwick, Haddingtonshire, Scotland on 9 August 1786; died in North Berwick on 27 April 1845), son of Cornelius Fortune and Agnes Walker, on 4 December 1816 in Dunbar, Haddingtonshire, Scotland[1].
Their children were:
- Cornelius Fortune (1817 - )
- Thomas Fortune (1826 - )
- Adam Fortune (1828 - )
- George Fortune (1831 - )
- Jannett Fortune (1835 - ).
Agnes died on 1 October 1839 in North Berwick aged ~49.
Research Notes
Birth:
The profile previously stated that Agnes was born in 1790 at Dunbar however there was no source given for this. It is therefore possible the location of Dunbar has been assumed based on the location of the marriage. The marriage record does say they are both of the Parish of Dunbar however it is still possible that she was born elsewhere and was "of the Parish of Dunbar" at the time of the marriage.
There is a birth/baptism of an Agnes Runciman on 22 December 1793 at Haddington, Haddingtonshire the daughter of John Runciman and Janet Muirhead[2]. Some research is required however to ascertain if this is the correct birth.
Marriage:
It should be noted that the profile originally had a marriage date of 12 April 1816 however the date given on ScotlandsPeople is 4/12/1816 which in the UK Date format is 4 December 1816. The date was therefore corrected.
