There is an entry in the Extracts from the Records of the Royal Burgh of Stirling on 10th June 1749 with regards to John[15] . The text states:

The council having considered a petition given into them by Alexander Act in favour Brymer, present deacon, John Runciman and John Harlay, overseers, and gardners Thomas Thomson, present boxmaster of the society of gardiners in and about the town of Stirling, for themselves and in name of the other members of the said society, and as authorised by them conform to an act the eighth of June current, craving the sanction of the town council to their meetings aad annual elections, so as the same might not be lookt upon as contrary to law and unwarrantable, for the reasons at length sett forth in the petition ; the council having deliberate on the petition, and judging nothing thereby craved to be contrair law or reason, do therefore grant the desire of the petition and appoint the clerk to give the petitioners an extract of this act and of the Petition given in for their warrand.[15]

In 1757, John had to bury 2 of his children. George was laid to rest on 23 August 1757[10], then just 2 days later Robert died on 25th August and was laid to rest on the 26th August 1757[7]. On the burial records it gives John's occupation as a Gardner.[7][10]

DNA

Although it currently appears unlikely that there are any surviving direct male line RUNCIMANs for this line, the Runciman Surname DNA project lives in hope that one may be found to help explore relationships, if any, with other Runciman lines.
