Dr. Edmund Taylor Rumble Jr. of Sunnyvale, Calif., a retired othopedic surgeon, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, from pneumonia. He was 91 years of age. The son of the late Edmund and Maud Rumble, he was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on August 28, 1909. He was the widower of Dorothy Brooks Rumble who died in November of 1991 after 51 years of marriage. Dr. Rumble graduated from Hamilton College and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a medical officer on the USS John Penn and was rescued in the South Pacific after his ship was sunk. He was a member and past commander of the H. Russell Kenyon Post No. 5808, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Callicoon, and had belonged to several medical associations. He was a former member of the Delaware Free Library Board of Directors in Callicoon as well as other community organizations. The Rumble family worshipped at St. James Episcopal Church. He practiced medicine in Callicoon until 1967 where he was associated with the late Dr. George R. Mills. After moving to Alta Loma, Calif., he worked as an orthopedic surgeon at Kaiser Permanent Center in Fontana, Calif., until his retirement in 1970. Dr. Rumble resided at Chateau Cupertino and Sunnyside Gardens after the death of his wife. He enjoyed traveling and often included medical conventions in those travels. A son, Roy Brooks Rumble, died in 1981. A memorial service will be held Saturday at St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Cupertino, Calif.
