Biography

William Rugge was born in 1550 in Flemington, Norfolk, England. (see notes)

He married Jane Harterew on 8 November 1573 in Uffculme , Devon.^[1] They had children Anne, Henry, Edward, and William, all born in Uffculme.

"Jane Harterew was born in 1559. Jane Harterew and William Rugge had the following child:

i. John Rugge was born in 1603 in Yorkshire, England. He died in 1697. He married Constance Rougeau. She was born in 1606 in England." (see notes)

Research Notes

Unsourced orphan profile - The biography text states William was born in Fremington, Norfolk, but the birth place attached in the data shows Uffculme, Devon, where he was married in 1573. The names are unusual so the marriage seems to be the one intended and there is a source for it.

The birth, marriage, and birth of his son John are all hundreds of miles apart. It would be very unusual for a couple from Devon to have children in Yorkshire at this time and Jane would have been over 50 at his birth. Marked John uncertain.
