Biography

Early Life

William Henry Rothery. ^[1] was born in 1831 in Lancaster, England and was baptised at St Mary's, Lancaster, on 1 January 1832^[2]. He was the son of John Rothery (-bef.1855) and Jane (Gunson) Rothery (1808-1852)

William's sister, Elizabeth Rothery (1833-1923), married Captain Collister and emigrated to Canada.

Emigration

William emigrated to Australia, arriving before September 1855.

First Marriage

His first wife was Emma Goulding, the second surviving daughter of Mr. Joseph Goulding of Davenham, Cheshire^[3]. William's father, John Rothery, a printer by trade, was already deceased by the time of his marriage.

Emma died in 1895 at the age of 65.

Second Marriage

William remarried in 1898, to Harlettee Louisa Groombridge at 155 Flemington Road, North Melbourne by Baptist minister Edward Harris. Witness: Annie Acheson.

Death

William died in 1912 at the age of 80.^[5] He is interred at the Springvale Botanical Cemetary, sharing his grave with Harlettee's son, Sydney Groombridge Turner, and grandson, Hector Turner.^[6][7]
