Biography
Maria Rossiter was born in 1847 in Pilton, Somerset, England. She was the daughter of James Rossiter and Mary Matthews.
Maria never married and no record of any children, and appears as a Miss Maria Rossiter, very old resident (no age is shown) in the Taranaki Herald notice of her passing [1]. She arrives in Auckland with her family on the ship Lord William Bentinck as: Rossiter Elizabeth, Mary, Susan, Maria, James, Mary, William and Emma (appears that William and Emma could be twins). A further 3 siblings born in New Zealand all daughters: Martha, Sarah and Ann (twins).
Maria is mentioned in her sister's probate administration in 1910 as a spinster aged 42 in 1910 (the age is incorrect).
She passes away in 1924 aged 65 years (as NZBDM) in New Plymouth and is buried in the Te Henui Cemetery, New Plymouth with her parents and siblings [2].
