FALMOUTH - Roy Emerson Rosewell, 74, died Saturday at Falmouth Hospital after an illness with lung disease.

He was the husband of Martha J. (Chubbuck) Rosewell for 54 years.

Mr. Rosewell was born in South Weymouth, where he lived for 44 years. He graduated from Thayer Academy, Braintree, in 1949 and attended Suffolk University. He was marine sales manager at Jannell Motors in South Weymouth for many years.

In the 1970s he began building wooden spars for sailboats, a hobby that became a career. He built spars for almost 500 boats over 35 years, becoming part of the history of reproducing classic wooden sailboats in fiberglass with wooden trim and spars.

Mr. Rosewell was an active member of North Falmouth Congregational Church and formerly on its board of trustees. He drove for the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery Program and was a member of the Falmouth Historical Society and Weymouth United Masonic Temple. He was a 32nd-degree Shriner, a member of the Aleppo Temple and a former member of Falmouth Skeet Club and Buzzards Bay Yacht Club.
