Hello to everyone out there interested in Ancestry. I am relatively new to the search but have become vert interested. Although my last name is Robinson I never knew my father or anything about him. My mothers maiden name was Carter, Lois Carter, so it is the Carter name that I am the most familiar. My mothers father was William Elbert Carter of Tennessee and her mother was Lizzie Florence Anders of North Carolina, I know nothing of my grandmothers side of the family. Williams father and mother (my great grandparents was Samuel Henry Carter of Tennessee and Eliza Jane Brady of Tennessee. Samuel's father and mother (my 2nd great grandparents) was Henry (Thomas?) Carter and Sarah Amanda Quinton, Henry was from Tennessee/North Carolina and Sarah was from South Carolina although some say she was from Tennessee. Her mother and father was Samuel Quinton and Lucinda McDuffie from South Carolina. The 1840 census show Samuel and Lucinda having a little girl age 4 in SC. The 1850 census in TN shows Samuel and Lucinda having a girl age 14,, its easy to trace this family. Samuel and Lucinda would be my 3rd great grandparents on the Quinton side. I knew my mothers parents and spent time with them. I have a little more but am looking for a lot more. If anyone has any information on either the Carter family name I have listed or the Quinton's and would be willing to share it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good luck to all out there looking for past family members!

Danny here is the link to a letter that shows the linage of William hasn't been proven as of 2010, https://www.familysearch.org/memories/memory/16847891 Do you have something that is recent that could prove that William's father is James rather then William. If not I believe William should be disconnected from James and put back with the parents he is believed to be the son of, until such time as proof is found.

Pam, I have removed Aldridge-368 & Gassaway-445 from my family tree showing them as parents to William Aldridge. I will also remove Aldridge-352 & Elizabeth unknown-665085 as parents of Symons-912 later this afternoon. I first want to read through the Bio's and other data you have on these profiles. I don't have a George Symons or Elizabeth Knighton in any of my notes so if they were in my tree I put them there in error. I did add some profiles to my tree in the last couple of days, but they were from existing profiles on WIKITREE that contained data that corresponded to some of my research. Appreciate your concern and input. Danny

Danny I've already corrected Symons-912, and Aldridge-352 and Unknown-665085, and connected William back up. I also put in a merge for your Gassaway-445 with Gassaway-49. As you know Wiki is one big tree, with the premise that there is one profile per person, so Mary Gassaway will become one profile instead of two. I wouldn't mind conversing about the Aldridge family since they are part of my heritiage also. As for James Aldridge and Mary Gassaway, I've done additional research this morning and all I've found is he could be William's father, or his brother william could be william's father. There's still only speculation there.

Hi again I don't see positive proof for James Allridge being William father, it seems more like speculation, do you have some primary proof?

Hi, George Symmons and Elizabeth Knighton daughter was proved by 1736 Probate record to be married to James Pickerill not to William Aldridge

Hi, Danny,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Danny,

How has adding your DNA to genesis.gedmatch helped you? I see that we have very small matches on a lot of chromosomes (smile). Our longest is 3.3 cM so not enough to be a match but fun to look at.

At any rate I just wanted to check in with you and see how things are going. If you have any questions let me know!

Hello again Danny,

I'm happy to hear things are going well! Have you tried uploading it to gedmatch.com? You can enter your Ancestry DNA info on your profile without using the actual test - we don't take test uploads here. Let me know if you have questions!

Danny thanks for your message. The best way to get help with your research is to join WikiTree as a full member. By volunteering to add what you know about your family you add to the tree. The further back you get the more connections you will get.

Ask questions on G2G forum and add family surnames and/or location tags to improve the connection. I cannot help with your perrsonal research but others will be familiar with your area. Just post a question in the forum.
