Biography

William was born about 1763 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. His parents were William Robertson and Phoebe Clyborne.

His father had moved his family to Bedford County c. 1780 and settled on land close to today's Booker T. Washington Monument in today's Franklin County.

William married Mary Freeman in 1795 in Bedford County, Virginia. She was the daughter of James and Sarah Freeman. Mary's sister, Jane, married Ezekial Dowdy and their daughter, Sarah, married Jonathan McGuire. Jonathan was the son of Elijah and Sarah Robertson McGuire. Sarah Robertson was William's sister and these families all lived near each other along Camping Run and Linville Creek in Franklin County.

William farmed and raised a family of at least 6 children: Martha Robertson, James Robertson, Richard Robertson, John Robertson, Littleberry Robertson and Smithson Davis Robertson.

William died intestate in Franklin Co. before 19 November 1822.
