Biography

Francis William Robertson was born on 22 April 1894 at Lawrence, New Zealand. He was the son of Robert and Margaret Roberson.

During WW1, he was in the New Zealand Army, regimental number 13/2899. Before enlisting, he had been a cleaner working for the New Zealand Railways, with last address Williamson Street, Thames. He commenced duty on 12 October 1915, embarked for foreign service on 8 January 1916. He was a Sapper in the New Zealand Light Railway Operating Section. He returned to New Zealand on the ship Port Melbourne, arriving on 8 March 1919, and was discharged from service on 11 April 1919.

Around 1919 in New Zealand, he married Ivres Agnes Fisher.

In his mother-in-law's will, dated 16 June 1922, he was named as an engine driver residing at Paeroa.

He passed away on 15 August 1964 at Hamilton, aged 70. He had been a retired railway employee. He was buried at Hamilton East Cemetery.
