Hi Jan,

The formatting I use is much the way I was shown in profile updating with the Mayflower Project. I fully intend to develop the Wheat profiles I have made further. As you can see I just made those profiles and am still gathering source material. Not everything lifted from Family search and duplicated on WikiTree is necessary. Some sources are more appropriate on the children's profiles instead of the parent's. I personally think it clutters up the profile adding too many redundant sources. In my short time on WikiTree (just a little over a year) I have begun to wonder why more effort isn't spent on original research and tree development instead of jumping on what others are already currently working on.

Todd, in response to your question it is because wikitree is based on collaboration.

Todd,

Please be assured first of all that no offense was intended. Collaboration is the first point in the Honor Code and team work is encouraged by WikiTree, especially when it comes to sourcing. The majority of seasoned genealogists would not suggest that sources with citations are clutter, but rather an essential part of the documentation process that not only verifies vital dates and residence, but also name variations and relationships. The more sources available, the fewer conflicts in the future. I hope that answers your question as to why you are not the only one working on profiles especially when that surname is a part of a group study/ project.

Hi, Jan

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
