Abraham Rieff was born circa 1735, (but perhaps as early as 1725) in Lower Salford Township, Philadelphia county, Pennsylvania, and died after August 19, 1788, in Earl Township, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. (Note: Montgomery County was created on September 10, 1784) Abraham served as a soldier in Captain William Crawford's company of the Tenth Battalion of Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, during the American Revolutionary War. [1]

Abraham's wife was Barbara Groff. Application for membership in the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution were made by the descendants of his sons, Samuel Reiff, who married Christiana Burkholder; David Reiff, who married Maria Wohlfart; and Joseph Reiff, who married Barbara Nolt; and of his daughter Anna Reiff, who married Daniel Witwer. [2]

Abraham was born about 1730. He was the son of Abraham Reiff and Barbara Moyer. He passed away in 1788.[3]

Note

Per the Genealogical Card Files of the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Files on Ancestry.com, Abraham's birth date is given as 1735. These card files are likely information taken from family group sheets and the information on the cards should be confirmed with more reliable documents.[4] https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/22194699?h=f31401 These cards give the date of marriage to Barbara Groff as 12 Feb 1757, and his date of death as 19 Aug 1788. There is no tombstone for Abraham and his wife Barbara.

His will was probated on the date given for his death, so he would have died prior to this date.[5] https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/22194755?h=a1ac4f His will was written on 20 Nov 1786. His wife was not named but only referred to as "beloved wife". Sons Joseph and Samuel who were under the age of 21 were bequeathed tracts of land. The only daughter mentioned by name was Anna (eldest daughter), younger daughters not mentioned by name. Son David mentioned. Executors were friend Christian Hurst, and sons David Reiff and Abraham Reiff Jr.
