James Frederick (Frederick) Redpath was born in 1899, the son of Richard Redpath and Eleanor Smith. He was known as Fred.
Fred migrated to New Zealand in 1921[1]. He returned the Isle of Man in late 1924[2], around the time of his father's death, he returned to the Isle of Man for a time. He became engaged, but broke off the engagement when he returned to New Zealand in Sep 1925.[3] He worked at a timber mill at Dean Forest, South Island, New Zealand.
While serving in the New Zealand Army Forestry Section as a Sapper (No. 61433) in WW2 he married his now-widowed former girlfriend at St George's, Isle of Man on 20 Aug 1942. Her married surname was Gorry.[4][5]
He returned to New Zealand via the USA in 1944.[6]
