"The petition of John Read, father-in-law of Martin Grim, late of Mahanoy Township in said county, deceased, was referred to the court humbly showing: that the said Martin Grim died, left Catharing his wife and issue two children, one son and one daughter, Abraham and Chesty, minors under the age of fourteen years, and have no guardians to take care of their person and estates. The petitioner therefore humbly prays the court to appoint another person or persons as guardians of said children. Wherefore January 19, 1818 the said petition is granted and John Read, appointed as guardian of said children for the purpose aforesaid.".

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships.
It is likely that these
autosomal DNA
test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Catharine:
Rieth-137 and Read-3335 appear to represent the same person because: Working on DNA connection and studied this for awhile and I never believed Phillip was her father. Abraham (my ancestor)and Jesta Ann were 4 and 5 years old when Martin and Catherine died and the Orphans Court document says they were placed with a father in law of Martin and named John Read. I'm convinced this is the correct parents now but will continue to work on DNA triangulation as well for proof.
I think it is much more likely that John Read/Reed mentioned is John Heinrich Rieth (Rieth-84) who is also related to the Grimm Families. Although not proven yet where Martin Grimm fits into the Grimm family from Berks County, PA this John Heinrich Rieth is related to the Grimm families that migrated here. Another possibility is that it was actually not a "father in law as mentioned in the orphans court but possibly a brother in law as there is a John Read that is a brother to Catharine that was ten years older. We will have to continue to research this. I took my BigY700 test and awaiting results so possibly we can learn more where our Grimm ancestors came from.
It appears that Catharine Reed mother of Abraham & Chesta Grimm may have been the daughter of John Reed (Rieth-122) who lists himself as the father in law of Martin Grim in an orphan court petition seeking to the guardianship of Abraham & Chesta.
