Biography

Daniel was born about 1818 in the Cherokee Nation (East) . He was the son of Rattlinggourd Conrad and Mary Toney. Daniel married Eliza Looney after the family emigrated to Indian Territory. ^[1] Daniel is found in the Tahlequah District on the 1851 Drennan Roll listed as Daniel R. Gourd.^[2] Eliza and Daniel were the parents of seven children, Looney, Charles, Sarah, John, Timothy, Thomas, and Alexander. ^[3] Daniel fought in the Civil War, as a private in I Co., 3rd Regiment, and was discharged with a fractured thigh. He passed away in 1877.
