Biography

John was born in 1880 in Iowa, probably in Melville Township, Audubon County where his family had settled to farm. He was the son of John Randolph and Presilla Erb. In 1902 at the age of 22, he married Augusta Sarah Partlow. They lived and farmed initially in Guthrie County, but by 1910 had shifted back to Melville Township where they lived and farmed for many years, raising five children. In their later years, they lived in nearby Adair. His wife Augusta died in 1944. John died the following year in 1945 in Guthrie Center, Iowa at age 65, and is buried together with his wife in Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Surname note

In this Fitz Randolph family, Fitz appears to have been the birth name of the grandfather, but then dropped and not used by him or his children, including John's father, as part of their surname: the Oris H.F. Randolph genealogy (referenced below) assumes they were still using the Fitz when listing the children in both the family in which John is a child and the one in which he is the father, but no records were found that cite Fitz.
